Let us take care of the hard work while you take some time to relax.

Right now in service:

  • Oil and filter change — $199, genuine parts, the oil Ingolstadt specs.
  • 10% off recommended service — when the technician flags what your car actually needs, not a package someone upsold you.
  • $100 off a standard alignment (non-ACC) — the quiet fix for uneven tire wear and a wheel that pulls.
  • ACC alignment and recalibration — $699 — for after a windshield, front-end work, or an alignment, when the adaptive cruise needs to be told the truth again.

Hallelujah Crab at Juban's

The Hallelujah Crab at Juban's

Juban's · 3739 Perkins Rd.

On the Table

The Hallelujah Crab at Juban's

There's a certain Baton Rouge restaurant that has figured out how to be formal without being stiff — jacket on, white cloth, a Creole kitchen that treats the Gulf like a pantry it owns. That's Juban's, on the Perkins corridor, and the dish to build a table around is the Hallelujah Crab: a crispy soft-shell, seafood stuffing underneath, Gruyère pomme purée, creolaise poured over the whole business. It is not subtle and it is not trying to be. It's named like a gospel line and it earns the exclamation.

Open with the Chicken, Duck and Andouille Gumbo — a cup if you're disciplined, a bowl if you're honest — or split the Oyster Duo, Rockefeller and Bienville side by side, before the Redfish Adrian comes out dressed in lump crab, mushrooms, and a Creole meunière that takes the fish seriously. This is a two-person room. Book it for the night you're going downtown anyway, eat early, and let the kitchen do the heavy lifting before the house lights come up somewhere else. Closed Mondays, so plan around it.

Cappuccino at Highland Coffees

Highland Coffees · 3350 Highland Rd.

In the Cup

The Chocolate Cappuccino at Highland Coffees

At the North Gates of campus, where Highland Road meets Chimes, there's a room that has been roasting its own beans since 1989 — which in college-town years is roughly forever. Highland Coffees doesn't do brunch theater or a fifty-item menu. It does coffee, roasted on site, poured by people who have been doing it long enough to not perform about it. The drink to order is the Chocolate Cappuccino, straight off the espresso board, chocolate folded into milk foam over a real double shot. No seasonal name, no syrup you can't pronounce. Just the drink, done right.

Take it to the courtyard if the weather's behaving — it mostly is this time of year — or hold a corner table with a laptop and nobody will rush you. A solo morning, or two people before a drive or a campus errand. A place, not a waiting room.

The Lone Bellow was supposed to open the month downtown. Storms on the Texas run postponed it; tickets hold for a date TBA. The room still has a night this week: Wednesday, October 7, 7:30 p.m., Alfredo Rodríguez Band feat. Pedrito Martínez opens River City Jazz Masters’ 20th season. From $56. Eat on Perkins, then walk in.

Some watches you can admire and never buy. This isn't one of them. Gallet — revived under Breitling's House of Brands — has brought back the 1969 Multichron Pilot, and the point of it is that you can walk in and get one. No waitlist, no gray-market tax, no performance about scarcity. Just a 42mm steel pilot's chronograph with a tri-compax dial, exactly the watch the name promises.

The details are the fun part. A bi-directional 12-hour bezel for a second time zone. A reverse-panda face in black and silver, or a denim-blue dial if you want to lean into the moment. Inside, the Gallet 23 — a worked Sellita SW510 — holding 62 hours in reserve. It reads $4,400 on a strap, $4,600 on the bracelet. Fresh out of Geneva Watch Days, and it's not a Speedmaster retread or a clearance-bin Breitling. It's a pilot chrono you can actually own, which these days is the rarest spec of all.
